LMCHD Grant for Free Exercise Classes at Ambrose
The Ambrose Recreation and Park District is the recipient of a grant from the Los Medanos Community Health Care District (LMCHD) and LMCHD Director Darnell Turner. The grant provides funding for a new health care program targeting youth/teens from 11-17 years of age and has extended the current senior citizen exercise classes for ages 60+. The current program for the senior class is funded by a grant from Kaiser Permanente, and the LMCHD grant will allow this very popular class to continue through the next grant cycle (July 1st). Both programs are held at the Ambrose Community Center.
Teen Exercise Class
Youth 11-17, began November 15th and is held Tuesdays and Thursday evenings from 5:15-6PM. The program focuses on weight loss/health goals. The instructor has over five years experience in aerobic exercise.
Senior Fitness Classes

The After School Program (ASP) transferred to the Mount Diablo Unified School District (MDUSD)
This past spring and during the past budget process, the Ambrose Recreation and Park District (ARPD) has had to make some hard decisions. The ARPD did not renew the After School Program contract as part of the 2011-2012 budget process. After much discussion and looking into the long term effects on the students, their families and the ARPD, the Board of Directors, in the best interest of all, transferred the program operations to the Mount Diablo Unified School District (MDUSD) to operate in the future.
There has been a lot of discussion regarding what effect this transfer of programming would have on the students, the staff and the program itself. The Board of Directors after analyzing all the information determined that the best course of action for the community and the program participants would be to transfer the program to MDUSD. The Board made this informed decision as a result of discussions with School District staff, the District’s attorney and insurance carrier, and with the best interests of the participants, the community and the ARPD in mind. Please see our “Frequently Asked Questions” for more information.
